A native of Arkansas, Chris received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Arkansas and his Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Chris gives great insight in what it was like to grow up the son of an Optometrist, but not having that to be his career choice until he’d begun undergraduate studies. He also discussed the importance of advocacy in Optometry and how that shapes not only our profession but us as individuals and leaders of the practices we work in.
In an email Chris wrote me after the interview, he said, “As always I think too much about what I said and didn’t say. Two things I wish I had said was a shout out to our Arkansas leadership during our legislative battle, my partner Belinda Starkey and her committee, co-chair Matt Jones and our exec Vicki Farmer, [all] rock stars in our effort! And a huge shout out to OD’s around the country, particularly the AOA and VS colleagues, who stepped up to support our fight financially. We believed that our success in Arkansas would be critical to future state victories.”
