Monday Aug 26, 2024
Dr. Chris Wolfe discusses the impact of private equity on patient care and the evolving healthcare landscape. It highlights the trend of physicians leaving private practice and opting for employment with larger health systems or corporate entities. The declining reimbursement rates and rising costs pose challenges for optometrists, leading to the need for strategic thinking and adaptability. The influence of private equity raises concerns about the standardization of care and the loss of autonomy for practitioners. The conversation emphasizes the importance of telling the story of independent optometry and the need to provide personalized, patient-centered care.

The Aaron Werner Podcast: Supercommunicator Book Club
Wednesday Aug 14, 2024
Wednesday Aug 14, 2024
The most effective leaders are Supercommunicators. What is a "Supercommunicator," according to author Charles Duhigg? Someone who makes conversation easy, enjoyable, and lasting and who helps us feel heard and known when we are around them. Thankfully, supercommunicating is a skill that can be learned. Drs Kyle Klute and Brianna Rhue join to discuss how we apply what we learned from the book to our personal and professional lives.
Here is a great overview of the book's core message from the YouTube channel "Productivity Game" https://lnkd.in/guyYRKJw

The Vision Of Leadership Podcast: Delegate Better
Sunday Aug 11, 2024
Sunday Aug 11, 2024
I bet you feel like you already have enough to do. A lot of what you do (many tasks you shouldn’t be doing), should be done by someone else in the business. And it will be done at least 80% as well as, if not better than, if you do it. It will also cost you less for others to do it. Here’s the real secret; they love doing the stuff you hate to do. That frees you up to do the things that only you can do. But if you want your tasks to persevere, you must make your instructions clear. Today we are going to demystify delegation by discussing a lesson I got from my time with Michael Hyatt’s Business Accelerator program. I’ll also share the tools to support you in becoming a better leader by better delegation https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZUAWtMc9s4V4uENXxSLjpmfHDh68TgTv/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=117287118297096999307&rtpof=true&sd=true

Sunday Aug 04, 2024
Dr. Aaron Werner discusses the importance of tracking business metrics in a practice and shares his approach to monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs). He emphasizes the value of regularly reviewing metrics to identify areas of improvement and make informed decisions. Some of the key metrics he tracks include revenue per exam, revenue per doctor hour, revenue per staff hour, capture rates, and material revenue sales per contact lens. He also highlights the significance of tracking metrics related to specific goals or areas of focus, such as the percentage of comprehensive exams referred for a dry eye workup. Dr. Werner believes that actively engaging with the data and maintaining a separate spreadsheet helps to foster a deeper understanding of the practice's performance.

Comprehensive Optometry Simplified Community: https://www.eyecodeeducation.com/bundles/comprehensive-optometry-simplified
- Optometrists often struggle with the cognitive anchor of the annual eye exam, which limits their ability to schedule patients for more frequent visits.
- Patient expectations and vision insurance reinforce the belief that the annual exam is sufficient.
- Refining protocols and following clinical practice guidelines can help optometrists provide more comprehensive care.
- Using key phrases to communicate concerns and the need for more frequent visits can help break the cognitive anchor and improve patient care.

The Chris Wolfe Podcast: Carotenoid FAQ - A Re-evaluation of the Evidence
Monday Jul 22, 2024
Monday Jul 22, 2024
In this conversation, Chris and Prof John Nolan discuss the measurement and correlation of carotenoid levels, specifically macular pigment optical density (MPOD). They explore the challenges of measuring MPOD directly and the limitations of current clinical devices. They also discuss the correlation between skin carotenoid levels and MPOD, debunking the claim that there is an 8% correlation. Prof Nolan explains that there is a 30-40% correlation between skin carotenoid levels and MPOD, making it a valuable tool for assessing carotenoid status in patients. They also touch on the importance of accurate and validated measurements for making informed clinical decisions. In this conversation, Prof John Nolan discusses the importance of accurate information and scientific evidence in the field of eye care and supplementation. He emphasizes the reproducibility of measurements of macular pigment optical density (MPOD) and the ability to make informed decisions based on these measurements. Prof Nolan also highlights the need for honesty and transparency in the supplement industry, particularly regarding the formulation and certification of products. He calls for a commitment to quality and the use of evidence-based science to benefit patients.
